Machine learning has come a long way since Google’s DeepDream software in 2015. What used to be limited to Mandelbrot-like images of puppies within puppies as far as the mouse could zoom, now allows us to create any image that we can think of, and in any style imaginable. What is perhaps most surprising, is that it can do this from a text description rather than reference images. The Project Artsy Monke was built upon recent years’ advancements in AI and image diffusion techniques, using Google’s collaborative Notebook platform Colab, and combining it with their powerful Cloud Computing service.

“We were able to take all ten thousand Bored Ape NFT images, and feed those into the machine as a loose canvas within which to frame the generative art. The end product was mind blowing. ” said CryptoGrims, Artsy Monke’s in-house AI artist. “After that, it was a matter of teaching the machine to paint in the twenty different art styles we shortlisted, and then running multiple servers for several weeks to get the results we wanted.”

The results are astounding. Browsing through the 10,000 Artsy Monke collection it’s easy to pick out the intricate Viking ship scenes, the moody neon city landscapes, and the intense stormy oceans, but if we half close our eyes while looking at any one piece, we see a very familiar Bored looking Ape.

“We felt there was something missing from standard NFT art. While we understood the hype and excitement behind minting a new Ape, knowing that you had no idea what it would look like and what type of rarity it would have, we also felt there was a fine art element missing from the standard NFT collections. No matter how much you loved it, would you really hang it in your home? We wanted to recreate the magic of the Bored Ape collection and convert it into art.” said Dan Hovey, the project’s blockchain developer.

The 10,000 piece collection has since already sold out, with new buyers only able to collect the art from owners on the NFT marketplace OpenSea. The good news is that whereas Bored Ape Yacht Club’s cheapest entry point is now 85 ETH (around $100,000), an Artsy Monke original will only set you back a cool 0.015 ETH ($22). This may not be the case for much longer, as the team are about to release Artsy Monkeland, a Metaverse Themepark where only Artsy Monke NFT holders can participate in Play to Earn (P2E) video games.

“Having being in the NFT space since early 2021, we always knew that we needed more than just a great looking NFT. Which is why we also designed it as a utility token. We wanted Artsy Monke to be pieces of art that you could hang on your wall, but also, by using Web3 technology, we can also let holders access the Artsy Monke games and earn real money. The more Monke NFT you hold, the more games you can play and the more money you can earn.”

NATO Cyber Rapid Reaction teams are on high alert to come to the aid of any of the allies who may come under attack. Industry experts around the world are concerned about the increased likelihood of cyber attacks even on businesses that are not directly handling anything sensitive. “The US and UK have separately also issued warnings of the risk of the conflict of Ukraine spilling over into cyber-attacks against businesses and government systems.” (Gordon Corera, Security Correspondent, BBC News)

Are Other Countries also at Risk?

Although the UK ranks third in the list of most powerful cyber nations in the world, the threat to businesses in the UK looms large. For instance, according to the BBC the FCDO (Foreignm Commonwealth and Development Office) recently became the target of a “serious cyber-security incident”. A third party cyber-security firm, BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, had to be called in for “urgent support”. The Stack revealed, quoting a tender notice on the government site, that the FCDO paid the BAE £467,325.60 for their assistance. The new Government Cyber Security Strategy, released in January 2022, notes that the UK’s “legitimacy and authority as a cyber power is however dependent upon its domestic cyber resilience, the cornerstone of which is government and the public sector organisations that deliver the functions and services that promote the UK’s economy and society.” Between September 2020 and August 2021, the NCSC was called in about 300 times to deal with a cyber security attack on the public sector. This means that roughly every day, a private business in the UK falls victim to a cyber attack so severe that they are unable to deal with it themselves and the government has to step in.

There’s no denying that technology has been the key to evolution for almost every industry. While we are still a few steps away from fully autonomous vehicles becoming an everyday part of our lives, AI has already woven its way into the transport industry. AI has upgraded the way we travel, and it’s also upgrading the way we move ourselves. Previously, AI has been used in the sports sector as a way to monitor and improve an athlete’s performance. Now, we’re seeing AI stepping onto the field in new and exciting ways – and, in some cases, quite literally too.

The Olympics has a long history of rapid technology adoption, and AI has been no different. From tracking big data to calculate the potential of athletes to delivering photo finishes, AI has been interwoven with the Games for many years. More recently, we’ve even witnessed robots at the Olympic games shooting hoops! Gaming

AI is at home in real-life sports games and in the digital competitive field. Its presence in the video game industry is nothing new –back in 2008, players were stunned by the AI “Director” lurking behind the scenes of cooperative shooter Left 4 Dead, as the artificial intelligence monitored each player’s skills, in-game location, and even perceived stress levels before using the information to decide where to place enemies along a player’s path.

The industry has come a long way since then, arm-in-arm with AI’s ever-growing capabilities. Nowadays, the technology is able to make in-game characters “remember” encounters with players and adapt accordingly, and research divisions of some of the world’s largest gaming companies are actively seeking to utilise AI to create characters that “will mimic human players. To some extent, they will think.”

Across several sectors, AI is shaping the present in preparation for a more efficient, safer, and exciting future. In fact, AI might very well become the next everyday innovation that we all simply take for granted.

So for companies to adopt AI there must be a very good reason it will either help them make money or save money.

Data is the lifeline of AI and it won’t work without data.

I’ll be using AI or artificial intelligence as an umbrella term which includes machine and deep learning.

What is deep learning?

complex deep neural networks.

Deep neural networks are capable of achieving human level accuracy for many tasks but they are hungry for data.

Examples of deep neural networks and deep learning in everyday lives include amazon recommendations, social media algorithms and everyone’s facial recognition.

Because AI needs data the adoption will probably first take place and where there’s data and probably money too.

Where can we find both data and money?

One of such business areas is the front line of the business sales and marketing because these departments have been collecting customer data and have a direct impact on revenue so this is where the money and the data is.

They need to understand customers and predict customer behaviour better in order to better serve the customers.

For example: In an interview the head of product and R&d of spotify Gustav Soderstrom mentioned that they can predict which podcast the listeners would possibly like based on their music taste.

After analysing a lot of digital marketing news around AI I have found these 3 ways that will have a major impact on digital marketing.

1. Customer behavior prediction and personalized user experience

Customer behavior prediction sounds fancy but it’s nothing new. The more digital products or services we use, the more data the service provider has on us.

Let’s not turn this into another episode of the social dilemma but this is basically advanced customer segmentation and attribution in digital marketing language.

Attribution tools allow you to see what drove customer x to do why there’s no magic once you see what’s under the hood but how you use these tools and how you cluster the data makes a difference.

For example: It’s actually impressive how spotify can make a prediction of the listener’s podcast preference just based on their music taste and you might have experienced this.

2.Programmatic advertising

If you’re in the business of SEM you probably already know that AI is taking care of the ad bidding on a

massive scale.

In digital marketing language AI is helping you best leverage your ad spend and optimizes your ROI

And in plain english AI will help you find the best way to spend your money. Just tell the AI your budget and criteria.

3. Content creation

It’s exciting and a bit scary. Websites like conversion.ai have been around so you can type in a keyword or a phrase as a prompt and it will generate an article for you.

Google’s open AI recently developed GPT-3 a gigantic language model that can generate human-like text

It can do some simple math and reasoning as well.

It’s not open to the public yet but I find the ability of doing math kind of amazing because it was trAIned with only text not numbers so basically gpt 3 learned math by reading english.

People who had early access to gpt 3 were amazed by the content that gpt 3 had generated because

It was realistic.

Ai is also used to generate music and sometimes it’s difficult to tell which piece was made by AI and which piece was made by humans.

Final Thoughts

Finally I want to point out that just because they say there’s AI inside doesn’t mean that there is AI inside. A 2019 survey showed that about 40 of the EU AI startups actually don’t have AI in their solutions. A lot of vendors want to capitalize the buzz of AI and want to sell you the snake oil so please do your homework before buying any AI solutions.
