For the first time since launching in 2019, UK-based Traced Ltd has introduced an in-app subscription to premium security features into its free security app, so that iOS and Android users can stay protected against phishing attacks and malicious web content as they browse the web.

Safe Browsing is the first feature Traced is including in Trustd Plus, and it’s available to both iOS and Android users. Safe Browsing is the same enterprise-grade available to customers of their business threat solution – Trustd MTD, and Traced is offering it to consumers to upgrade their on-device security for a low monthly subscription.

The introduction of premium features via Trustd Plus is a first for Traced, which has been acclaimed with an average 4.5 star rating across over 8000 reviews globally on Google Play. Users appreciate Traced’s privacy-first ethos and threat detection capabilities.

What is Safe Browsing and how does it protect against phishing?
Mobile phishing attacks are on the rise (in fact, they increased 700% in the first half of last year (Source: Proofpoint data). There’s smishing, vishing, phishing over social media and email, and there’s also phishing content on the web that lures a target to download a malicious app or enter their private details into a form.

The free Trustd app protects consumers against phishing by scanning phishing links in text messages, email apps, productivity and messaging apps like Slack, WhatsApp, Skype and social media – blocking the link from opening.

Safe Browsing in Trustd Plus provides a deeper layer of phishing protection. It detects and blocks fake and malicious websites while users browse the web from any app. Safe Browsing would detect malicious websites such as those used in the Dracarys and Malibot malware campaigns, preventing users from accessing the sites before they could download the infected app. In phishing attacks that present forms that send sensitive data back to the attackers, Safe Browsing would block those webpages from opening before a victim can enter any personal information.

To experience peace of mind when browsing the web, users can subscribe to Trustd Plus through the Trustd app. Download from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

With the new iPhone 14 just days away from release, what is the most popular smartphone currently in use around the world?

Apple’s eighth-generation model has sold the most units out of all other smartphones

The iPhone 6 (including the iPhone 6 Plus) is the best-selling smartphone of all time, selling 224 million units since it was released in 2014. The iPhone 6 is not the longest-running smartphone and nor does it offer the latest features – its popularity can be put down to overwhelmingly positive reviews and a redesign on the previous iPhone which balanced form and functionality.

As experts in technology, MAGFAST investigated the most popular phones throughout time and how the technology has developed, from the very first mobile phone released in the 1980s to the latest advancements in 5G. One portion of our study involved finding which cell phone models have sold the most units ever. Whilst it was the basic Nokia 1100 and Nokia 1110 that came first and second in the rankings, the iPhone 6 was the best-selling smartphone.

The iPhone 6 proved popular right at its launch. It received 4 million pre-orders within the first 24 hours of availability, which exceeded the number of units Apple had. Once it launched, it sold 10 million units just in the first three days of sale.

The iPhone 6 promised several improvements on the previous iPhone 5 and its variants. The iPhone 6 had a longer battery life, larger screen size and a higher resolution camera. However, even with its success, the model was not without its criticisms. It was the iPhone 6 that was subject to the infamous ‘bendgate’, where users reported the phone was susceptible to bending under pressure, such as being carried in a pocket. Apple maintained that this issue was “extremely rare” and replaced any unintentionally bent phone.

The next best-selling smartphone is the iPhone 6s (including the iPhone 6S Plus). These were the successor models, released a year after the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The 6S and 6S plus have sold 174 million units worldwide. They had a similar design to the preceding models but offered more durable hardware, a higher resolution camera, and updated software. Apple continues to dominate the smartphone market, with the next best-selling smartphone being the iPhone 5S. Released in 2013, this model sold 164 million units.

MAGFAST is the future of charging and connectivity. Our revolutionary family of premium chargers and charging accessories utilize the latest technology to ensure everyone can stay connected at home and on the road. MAGFAST is truly versatile and can be used with old, new and future devices. With such a range of cell phones now available, we looked into the history of mobile communication technology to find the most popular phones through time.

What’s that one program you can’t live without? The one thing that you use everyday. The one thing without which your social life can’t survive. If you’re anything like the most of the population you use it on most of your devices. Phones tablets laptops desktop you name it. If you answered angry birds, stay after class. But if you answered email, you’ve earned extra credit.

Now the major question is, how do you check your mail? What I mean to ask is do you use the web mail or do you use an email client like Microsoft outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or any other? Most of the people use the web mail because it is easier and hassle free. But all you need to do is get the hang of any email client, and you will love it. Seriously, try any one of the email clients mentioned below and I am sure you will get addicted to them.

Now before I list the top 5 email apps for Mac, I’d like to answer the 2 main burning questions-

Why do I need an Email Client?

Each and every operating system comes with a default email client already installed in it.  To be quite frank, you don’t actually need an external email client. In most cases the web mail will suffice. But still having an email client has its own perks. Now the email clients don’t use the internet as the way you would picture it. They’re not a website. They download the email right into your computer from the main server. Whereas in the web mail, you are checking or reading your mail right from the server.

Thus, by using a client you have a copy of all the emails right on your computer and you can access them even when your internet is down. It’s really a matter of taste but most people that I’ve been in contact with seem to prefer using a PC email client such as Outlook or Outlook Express to access their email. A PC email client will run faster than a web based email system because it is running on your local PC. Also the matter of security comes into the picture. Once someone has the password to your web-mail, they’re basically through and have access to all your data. An email client needs a hell lot of details to log in, like the server name, user name, password etc. Thus the data security is better as long as you keep your laptop safe.

Is the Default Email Client Not enough?

In short? No. But if you’ve got to do something, do it right. That applies here too. In most cases the default application provided by an OS is never enough. The OS X Mail 7.0, the email client in the Mac OS X is not good enough either. I won’t go as far as calling it a disaster.

In fact, it’s quite good. But it lacks some things like it has no rules or smart folders that learn from example, flexible message templates and truly free-form labeling, very few criterion in smart folders to name a few. If you’ve going to use an email client for your Mac, you have got to use one of those listed below.

Mozilla Thunderbird

mozilla-thunderbird

If you have used the Mozilla’s Firefox you might be inclined to try out one of its newer child, the Mozilla Thunderbird. Just like the browser it offers a lot of add-ons that enable you to which can make your email desktop client look and work the way you like It comes with enhanced multiple tag search in Quick Filter. Now when you are searching for a particular phrase, it will look within the newest mails first and then the old ones. To remain in competition with its counterparts the Mozilla has added plenty new functions. Now, you can archive your email, helping you save tons of space in the mailbox, but at the same time keeping all these messages and attached files intact.

The interface of the Mozilla Thunderbird is a bit messed up. But it does have many of the newer and smoother features of Firefox that help you include a lot of add-ons that help you customize it anyway you like. Another feature it provides is that of creation of different tabs, adding a lot of flexibility, because if you have important correspondence you can entirely put it in a different tab, allowing you to keep track of all that happened in this email conversation.

The level of security is nothing special but you sure are protected from Phishing , so that you can be safe from Junk mail. If you’re looking for a free, easy, open source app to keep your mailbox organized, the Mozilla Thunderbird is just the thing for you.

Postbox 3

postbox-3-mac

The Postbox 3 has a lot of features. It has plenty of new as well as old features that make it impossible to recognise that it’s a rework of Thunderbird. Postbox’s designers have thoughtfully built in ways to tie the program to Gmail, Evernote, Dropbox, and even LinkedIn. It comes with a start-up wizard which can automatically configure all your emails. That is why you can get all that done with that in a matter of minutes, because the wizard searches for the server configurations itself and fills in the rest of all the necessary email account information.

As far as the interface is concerned, it is sleek and easy to use. Users can choose between Classic and Vertical view layouts; they can visualize or not have any of the four available panes, which are: Folder, Focus, Message, Inspector and Favorites.   It’s a paid app that is highly gmail user centric, thus its recommended that you download the 30 day free trial before buying the full version.

Sparrow 1.3.1

sparrow-mac

Don’t want to be burdened with too many unnecessary features? Then the Sparrow 1.3.1 is just the app for you. Sleek, light, easy to use, this app is best for those who want to stay away from extraneous, extravagant features. All you need to do is add your name email address the password and voila you’re done. All you need to do is kick back and relax.

The sparrow will spring into action by loading the bulk of your thousands of Gmail messages within minutes. The fact that Google bought this entire company after being impressed by this makes a pretty strong claim for the app. The fact that creators aren’t updating the client anymore makes it a risky download since you won’t get much support. But still with a crisp, clean, simple interface this is a safe bet for those who want a hassle free experience.

Inky

inky-mac-app

How many email accounts do you have? Surely its more than one. One for personal communications, one for office emails and perhaps even more. It can become real messy and difficult to keep track of all the emails you receive. Inky allows you to add all your accounts into one. It has a flat and gorgeous design which it rocks, no ridiculous over-the-top designing, a simple email client to make your email simpler.  The program also recognizes and categorizes different kinds of messages, from daily deals to social media notices, in custom views that you can switch on or off in its settings. I personally can’t think of any reason for not giving it a go. So go ahead, download it. You’ll love it. Trust me.

Email Pro for Gmail

With Gmail being the most loved email service among people right now it’s only fair that most of the email clients coming out right now be Gmail centric. And so is the Email Pro. As long as you have a Gmail account, its super useful. Rather than thinking about it as an email app, think of it as a Web browser that can navigate to only Gmail—offer basic functions at pocket-change prices. In the email pro you use Gmail directly, rather than importing its mail into an app, you don’t have to create an application-specific password, even if you’ve heightened your Gmail security settings. The Email pro has a pretty simple and colourful interface. It may take a while for you to get the hang of it, but once you do, it will be really easy. You can also make the Email Pro fill in for your desktop background. Thus if you have a Gmail account and are looking for an app with all the useful features in it, the Email Pro for Gmail is your best bet.

2013 is now well underway, which means we can expect a whole host of new and exciting gadgets bursting their way on the market.

And as gadgets go, no company creates as much buzz as tech-giants Apple, the company that single-handedly changed the way we use technology.
So let’s take bite out of Apples big developments in the coming year.

Apple Radio

Step aside Spotify, because Apples entry onto the online radio market is going to make waves.
Big waves.
Discussions on this began in October of last year, with the first glimpses first released around March.
The free-radio service would make money through advertising, allowing consumers to browse all their favourite songs, artists and albums. And with Spotify coming under fire in recent years, including a very public spat with The Black Keys
, who famously refused to allow their album El Camino to be on the website, it seems music lovers may be using Apple by the end of the year.
Rest assured, it sounds like a very interesting concept.

could you be ditching Spotify for Apple Radio?

iPad Mini with Retina Display

The iPad is one of the best creations within 21st century technology and certainly the biggest ‘cash cow’ of all Apple products. And when the companies Retina Display was added to the concept, they virtually flew off the shelves.
When the iPad with Retina Display was released, 3 million of these were sold in a weekend in March 2012 alone, and by the end of the year, it was suggested by Digitimes that between 8-10 million had been purchased.
It’s widely expected that a mini version of the product will be released in March, considering the Ipad 2 was released March 2011 and the Retina Display in the same month last year.

Return of the Mac?

Another one of Apples most successful products and another that was given the Retina Display treatment in 2012.
The big change with this product is the development of the Mac Mini, that should be finished and completed for sale in 2013. On top of this, there is expected to be an improvement on the MacBookAir, especially where its battery is concerned.

So that’s what we think will be the big developments form the Californian giants, but only time will tell.
But what do you think? We’d love to know what bits of kit you’re looking forward to seeing this year

Last week, Apple announced their latest handset, the iPhone 4S. People were somewhat disappointed with this announcement because everyone was expecting there to be a totally new, iPhone 5. Well sorry folks, we’re going to have to make do with a phone that looks exactly the same as the iPhone 4, it’s just a hell of a lot better!

Yes, it’s the same on the outside, but on the inside, under the bonnet it’s a totally different machine. The iPhone 4S comes with the all new Apple A5 Chipset, the main hub of the phone meaning that it is significantly faster than the iPhone 4. Another feature that the iPhone 4S has which sadly the very good iPhone 4 can’t boast is the 1080p HD recording. With its video stabilising, LED Flash and both photo and video geotagging it’s safe to say that the iPhone 4S has a lot more to offer on many more fronts.

With all the problems Apple had last year with the antenna problems when they released iPhone 4, this year with the iPhone 4S they have vastly improved signal quality as I imagine they don’t want a repeat of last year’s fiasco when they had to send out iPhone 4 bumpers to everyone who had purchased their new device.

One other thing on the iPhone 4S that is sure to capture the headlines is the new voice control software, Siri. For those of you who don’t know what exactly it does then you may or may not be blown away by it. It’s pretty much an app for your phone that means you can hold a conversation with it about anything from local restaurants to asking Siri to remind you to buy your wife a birthday card when you leave your workplace. Yes, it is that good that it knows when you leave work. For more on Siri see Apple’s YouTube video on how to use it and the things it is capable of here.

So all in all the iPhone 4S is no doubt a step up from the iPhone 4, but in theory it is only keeping up with the competition from the likes of Samsung and HTC. We do however expect to see many people lining the streets to buy their new handset when it is released later this week, especially seeing as though Apple managed to get people queuing outside their stores for a white version of a 9 month old phone!

With the latest Apple conference set to take place tomorrow and the fact the invites were titled “Let’s talk iPhone” is a bit of a giveaway as to what they’re set to be announcing tomorrow.

The rumours have been rife over the last few months about whether we’re going to see a new iPhone or just a tweaked version of the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, but with people claiming to have “leaked” news about the imminent arrival of the iPhone 5 I think the vast majority of people would be surprised to see no iPhone 5 being released.

There are also “leaks” that there is going to be another iPhone device announced. There’s some photo’s doing the rounds from a factory in Brazil. In these pictures apparently is the new iPhone 4S device. This does wash seeing as the device in question does look pretty much exactly the same as the iPhone 4. Could we be seeing two new iPhones?

There are many out there who hope that Apple will be unveiling not one, but two new iPhone handsets. Obviously this would be a first for Apple as they have previously only released one handset at any one time, but there are a lot of things doing the rounds in the rumour mill that there’s going to be an iPhone 4S and 5 released. Also, someone out there is obviously a bit of a big iPhone fan, as they’ve made their own iPhone 5 prototype device.

They will also be talking a little bit about the new iOS which is no doubt going to be on the new handset. The new iOS in question is aptly named ‘iOS 5’ which you would think points to the fact that there’s going to be an iPhone 5 released.

Also, iTunes new beta version which is set to be released on Friday has leaked the iPhone 4S. In its description tag it has the product name ‘iPhone 4S’ which again may throw many people out there off as there’s no mention of the iPhone 5.

So it seems that there’s still no clear news as to what devices are going to be released, so I suppose all we’ll have to do now is wait. Not like we have to wait long though, it’s announced tomorrow!

Just a few months after the launch of the iPad 2, the rumour mill is now full of discussions about when the next generation version of Apple’s revolutionary tablet will be released.

The Taiwan Economic News is reporting that a number of suppliers of the components will start delivering parts for the new tablet from October, increasing numbers by December encouraging speculation for a release date in early 2012.

The company have also reportedly enlisted a second company to assemble the device following supply problems after an explosion at the factory where the iPad 2 was being constructed.

Apple have currently not confirmed or denied anything to do with the iPad 3 and are expected to remain quiet up until the official launch.

Owners of first or second generation iPads should look to investing in iPad insurance for their tablet. Accidents and theft can easily happen, so looking for iPad insurance prices on iPad insurance comparison websites can give peace of mind to owners of the tablet to be sure that your device is safe, no matter what happens.

We all know that for the last few years Apple have had a little bit of a routine when it comes to announcing details about the next instalment of iPhone. It tends to be around June/July time when they announce the eagerly anticipated info, however this year all we got was an announcement about the next iOS. Well as you can imagine a lot of people weren’t happy about this, none more so than Samsung!

Yes that’s right, Samsung! Who’d have thought that Samsung would be bothered by what their rivals are producing? Well it seems that Samsung are quite bothered. Apple have said that their rivals, Samsung have been harassing them into releasing details about their secret plans for the next iPhone and the iPad 3.

In all fairness, there is a lawsuit that is currently going on to try and determine whether Samsung’s Galaxy range has been influenced by Apple’s iPhone range and a judge has forced the Korean tech giants to show their upcoming range of handsets and in retaliation the Korean giants have demanded that Apple show their plans for future devices, however Apple are now calling it harassment.

Make of this what you will but we could soon be treated to a bit of info about the new iPhone! Fingers crossed guys!

Just over a year ago many in the tech world were shocked at the release of Apple’s iPad. However, just over 12 months on and an astonishing amount of apps later, Apple have released their next instalment in the iPad family. They announced just a few weeks ago that they would be releasing their new device, the iPad 2 in the United Kingdom on the 25th of March.

The iPad 2 has already been released in the US, being launched out there on the 11th of March. Steve Jobs announced that Apple would be releasing this new device at the recent conference that was held. It’s kind of an annual conference that is held almost every year, like the one for the iPhone that get held every June or July to announce the eagerly anticipated Apple iPhone that most people know about anyway. Because let’s be honest it doesn’t really take a genius to work out the sequence they’ve got going on when it comes to announcing new products.

Back on to the subject of iPad’s they have announced the iPad 2 and its release date for the UK and in the US so as you may imagine when it comes to new Apple products, there’ll be an abundance of people pre-ordering the new iPad so that they can go and pick theirs up on release day. Some people may have a look at the different iPad accessories that are available for you to buy with your iPad. As you may imagine, Apple probably make a fair amount of their money on the official accessories that they sell in their stores up and down the country and also online. Things like iPad accessories will be massive sellers when the new device gets released, people will want to keep their new ‘toy’ safe and protected.

Perhaps you’re not in the US, perhaps you’re over here in the UK? Well if you are then there’s plenty of different places for you to go and have a look for iPad accessories UK, and have a look at what they have on offer for you and your iPad, and who knows you may find a bargain, or bag yourself an absolute gem that may cost you ten times the price somewhere else. Maybe you know someone over in America who can get you what you’re after for half the price? If you do then that would be a money saver for you!

The iPad has been a massive hit in the 12 months that it’s been out. As of the 25th of December last year the original iPad had sold over 14 million units worldwide! 14.79 to be precise which is pretty damn amazing when you consider that we’re supposed to be in a global recession. Imagine all the iPad accessories that got sold when people were buying their flash, fancy new iPads.

Smart phones have pretty much become life support for millions of people. They’re as portable as your wallet, and their ever-increasing production means you can fulfill your every need and your every desire with the tap of your finger. They can organize your schedule, help you socialize with friends, manage your bank account, scan QR codes to receive voucher codes from retailers, find the closest froyo shop, and that’s the tip of the app iceberg.

But with all this frenzied app creation and consumption, there comes a dark side: the pervasive collection of users’ data, many times without their knowledge. We’ve compiled a list of the apps that may get your personal identity in the most trouble.

Latitude

the latitude app

Latitude is one of those apps that doesn’t really hide the fact that it’s transmitting your personal information, but it definitely divulges an undeniably personal level of detail when you’re signed on: your exact physical location.

Granted the app handles profile viewers much the same as any other social media – you must confirm who your friends are and you can quit anytime – but considering the havoc social sites such as Facebook have reeked on people’s lives, it’s easy to see how things could go awry.

For example, if you decide, one day, to scan the world map to see where your “friends” are residing, you may be surprised to find two dots that happen to be right on top of each other. Two friendly phones set on a coffee table, or two of your friends doing the hanky-panky?

If it’s not speculation and gossip you’re worried about, then turn your attention to some of your less scrupulous “friends.” There have already been documented stories of vacationers’ away messages hinting burglars to empty houses ripe for the plucking. With Latitude, you don’t even need to leave town for the weekend to be had; one of your “friends” just has to see that you happen to be cruising the shopping mall on the opposite side of town.

Google Searches – Maps, Web, etc.

google apps

If you’re so sure you’d never be so stupid as to give away your location information, think about Google’s Maps or Web searches. While you may be under the impression that your location information is merely between you and Google to get you to the closest vegan, gluten-free café in town, think again. The truth is you agreed when you downloaded the app that Google could share your data with third parties.

While Google uses the defense of full disclosure (i.e. it mentions what data the app has access to in the fine print before the download occurs), it is believed that many independently created apps could be violating these rules.

Facebook

the facebook app

Facebook is another giant that was found to be divulging information; in this case phone IDs that could potentially give third-party advertisers your name and friends list. The mere scale of this is what makes it most disturbing – tens of millions of people according to a Wall Street Journal investigation.

Paper Toss

the paper toss app

Despite the fact that many smartphone owners justify the device’s purchase based on its ability to offer a vast array of life management capabilities, games are believed to be the most downloaded type of app. Which brings us to Paper Toss; one review lauds the thrilling prospect that this game is “so realistic, you will think you are stuck in an office killing time”.

If the lure of workplace drudgery digitized at your fingerprints is too much to avoid, consider what kind of information Paper Toss collects and distributes about its users. Turns out, the app game has already given out users’ unique phone ID number to several different ad companies.

And, depending on what kind of phone you have, the ID number can give a range of information. Apple’s UDID is a 40-digit alphanumeric code that acts as a lifelong serial number for the phone. Android phones have an Android ID that is able to be reset. BOTH are transmitted unknowingly by several app providers. To make it more complicated is the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number, an ID number that is used to lock phones when users report them stolen. Five Android apps were already found to be sending this number to one or more outside companies.

Pandora

the pandora app

Pandora is one of the most downloaded apps for smartphones, and with good reason. Who doesn’t love streaming music digitally cooked to perfection?

The point is that Android and iPhone versions of this wildly popular app have been revealed to transmit information about users’ age, gender, and location. Age and gender data are usually fodder for marketing companies, nothing too wildly insidious. But why must location play a role in designing music tastes? Is Pandora embarking on a journey to change the world, one song at a time? “Oh, look, this user is walking along the bridge, skip Van Halen’s “Jump”” Or is it for control over the masses? “User has entered assimilation facility; cue up Pink Floyd’s “Welcome to the Machine.”

So, next time you’re zipping through your smart phone’s app store with reckless abandon, stop and ponder who might be watching and just how much they already know.
