With the new iPhone 14 just days away from release, what is the most popular smartphone currently in use around the world?

Apple’s eighth-generation model has sold the most units out of all other smartphones

The iPhone 6 (including the iPhone 6 Plus) is the best-selling smartphone of all time, selling 224 million units since it was released in 2014. The iPhone 6 is not the longest-running smartphone and nor does it offer the latest features – its popularity can be put down to overwhelmingly positive reviews and a redesign on the previous iPhone which balanced form and functionality.

As experts in technology, MAGFAST investigated the most popular phones throughout time and how the technology has developed, from the very first mobile phone released in the 1980s to the latest advancements in 5G. One portion of our study involved finding which cell phone models have sold the most units ever. Whilst it was the basic Nokia 1100 and Nokia 1110 that came first and second in the rankings, the iPhone 6 was the best-selling smartphone.

The iPhone 6 proved popular right at its launch. It received 4 million pre-orders within the first 24 hours of availability, which exceeded the number of units Apple had. Once it launched, it sold 10 million units just in the first three days of sale.

The iPhone 6 promised several improvements on the previous iPhone 5 and its variants. The iPhone 6 had a longer battery life, larger screen size and a higher resolution camera. However, even with its success, the model was not without its criticisms. It was the iPhone 6 that was subject to the infamous ‘bendgate’, where users reported the phone was susceptible to bending under pressure, such as being carried in a pocket. Apple maintained that this issue was “extremely rare” and replaced any unintentionally bent phone.

The next best-selling smartphone is the iPhone 6s (including the iPhone 6S Plus). These were the successor models, released a year after the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The 6S and 6S plus have sold 174 million units worldwide. They had a similar design to the preceding models but offered more durable hardware, a higher resolution camera, and updated software. Apple continues to dominate the smartphone market, with the next best-selling smartphone being the iPhone 5S. Released in 2013, this model sold 164 million units.

MAGFAST is the future of charging and connectivity. Our revolutionary family of premium chargers and charging accessories utilize the latest technology to ensure everyone can stay connected at home and on the road. MAGFAST is truly versatile and can be used with old, new and future devices. With such a range of cell phones now available, we looked into the history of mobile communication technology to find the most popular phones through time.

iPhones are like the Kim K of the technology world – everyone and everything has heard of them.

However there are a few things that your phone can do which you probably didn’t know about; let’s call them iPhone secrets. These iPhone secrets are built in your phone so deep that you’ll probably never stumble upon them, but they’re great to know!

So, here are our favourite iPhone secrets:

Create a custom ringtone

When I got my first ever iPhone, it was hard to make the transition from my custom ringtones to the standard ones that Apple supply (although I was 13 years old and the transition from Justin Bieber to Marimba was probably a good one).

However, if you’re looking to get something that is truly unique, download the GarageBand app and start creating your own 30-second track to be used as a ringtone.  Choose the share option, press ringtone and assign it to a contact/notification.

Custom vibrations

Got your phone on silent in your pocket but still want to be notified when someone’s ringing you? Create your own custom vibration!

Your iPhone has this secret feature where you can create a custom vibration so that you can know who’s ringing you – even when your phone is ringing silent in your pocket.

To set up custom vibrations, head to your contacts list, select a contact and hit ‘edit’. Scroll down and you’ll see ‘Vibration’ – click ‘default’ and scroll down to create a custom pattern.

Tap on your screen to create your own rhythm; once you’ve saved, you’ll be able to pick up on vibrations to see who’s calling you!

iphone secrets

Do Not Disturb… Minus My Friend

We all know that your iPhone has a Do Not Disturb mode, but did you know that you can have a ‘Do No Disturb Unless You’re …’ mode?

Perfect for if you’re wanting to take a sleep but waiting for an important text/phone call, this mode can be set up by adding the contact to your Favourites list, then selecting ‘favourites’ when you head to Settings > Do Not Disturb > Allow Calls From.

Flash for a message

Maybe the title of this one is a bit misleading, but it’s true that you can make your iPhone’s flash feature flash when you get a message.

Head to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn on ‘LED Flash for Alerts’ beneath the Hearing section to turn this on.

Although the practicality of it isn’t really the best (I can’t seem to get my head around why you would EVER need this), it’s still handy to know!

Photo AND video?!

Ever been in such an amazing situation where you find yourself wishing you could take a photo AND video at the same time?! With your iPhone, you can!

When you’re recording video on the iPhone camera, tapping the small camera icon beneath the record button will allow you to take a photo whilst your video is still being made. The video itself will be of slightly less quality, but it’s still amazing to have two different memories of the same event!

Are there any iPhone secrets that we’re missing? Let us know!

With so many great iPhone photo-editing apps all over the place, it can be hard to find the one that’s best suited for your own personal photography.

Although the cameras on our smartphones are getting better and better, they’re still not making the cut!

We’ve compiled a list of the best photo editing apps for any smartphone to help you get the best results from your own photography session… They’ll be internet-worthy in no time; we’re sure!

AfterFocus

afterfocus

One of our favourite photo-editing apps is After Focus.

This app can help you break down the composition of your photo and blur our certain features that you don’t want to include.

You’re able to draw the viewer’s attention (and distract them from the bits you don’t want them to see), creating a visually interesting photo that is definitely Instagram-worthy.

SuperImpose

superimpose

This app is similar to Afterfocus in the fact that you can break down your images, but has many other features.

Superimpose is an app that allows you to mix multiple images within one. Say if you don’t like the background of a photo you’ve recently taken but have an amazing landscape shot taken at a completely different time, Super Impose gives you the chance to merge the best qualities of each photo together.

Although this photo editing app takes a bit of time to get your head around, it has amazing results when you manage to work it out!

VSCOCam

vscocam photo editing

This photo editing app is a classic and is used by many professional photographers all over the world.

VSCOCam is the best way to achieve a classical film-like effect on your normal everyday photos. The majority of filters that VSCOCam have to offer are predominately designed to feature a soft and faded look.

With this editing app, you can alter the film grain and exposure of your photography, and the online journal gives you the chance to share your photography with other lovers around the world!

Touchtouchretouch app

Retouch

How irritating is it when you take an amazing photo, only to notice that there’s a small mark in the background that doesn’t fit in with the theme of it?

Touch Retouch is the best way to remove unwanted elements from a photo by circling an area and cloning pixels from other areas of the photo.

This photo editing app is the best way to get a seamless photo, helping you get your photography up to scratch in no time!

Afterlight

afterlight

Another great app for editing photos is Afterlight.

Afterlight is one of the simplest apps to navigate around as their simple interface makes editing your photo as easy as possible.

There are many textures and filters that you can use within this app, even giving you the opportunity to straighten and crop your image.

Piclab

piclab photo editing

The most expensive app on our photo editing list is Piclab, which costs £2.29.

Although this app is quite expensive in terms of photography editing, it’s definitely worth it! Piclab is the best app for overlaying illustrations and typography over your images, turning them Pinterest-worthy in no time at all.

As well as adding typography and illustrations onto your images, you are able to create light and airy photos by editing the brightness and contrast.

What is your favourite photo editing app?

This year’s most publicised gadget, the Apple Watch is soon to be with us. On April 24th expect tech-fanatics to line the streets outside of Apple stores worldwide in the hope of being one of the first people to get their hands on this revolutionary accessory.

For many of you, you may have to wait on this product to drop considerably in price before you invest in it. For those of you who can’t wait, then you should consider buying it from outside the UK for a cheaper price. In this infographic from Voucherbox, find out which countries are selling the new Apple Watch at the cheapest price:

Get the New Apple Watch for Less

Get the New Apple Watch for Less in These Countries by Voucherbox.co.uk

Sadly for UK residents, each model (Apple Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition) is to be sold at the most expensive price in comparison to other countries across the world. A 38mm Apple Watch is going to set Britons back a whopping £479, which is noticeably higher than the second most expensive country, China’s price of £446 for the same model.

With the U.S dollar continuing to drop in value, it’s no surprise that the United States is the cheapest country to purchase the latest invention from Apple. The difference in price between the U.S and the UK for the 38mm Apple Watch model is a considerable £113, which may encourage Brit’s to purchase the product stateside if possible.

Taking shipping costs, international tariffs and duty fees into account, you’re going to have to pay a pretty penny to purchase the Apple watch from U.S, however, you’re still going to be saving money on the cost you would have to pay if you bought the product in the UK.

There is a reason why consumers are prepared to blow a fortune on one of these new fashion accessories, and that’s because of the jaw dropping interactive features it comes equipped with:

 Keeping yourself entertained

Just like the Apple IPhone and IPad, the Apple Watch is set to follow suit in the way that it allows it’s users to access a huge number of applications via touch screen. This means that users will have the opportunity to read the latest news, listen to music and keep themselves up-to-date with their numerous social networks.

Connectivity like you’ve never seen it before

When you use the Apple Watch, there is no need to reach for your phone as it has the ability to connect to the IPhone 5, or any version above that. This means that any texts, calls or emails you receive will go straight to your Apple Watch and your IPhone. As well as having all the standard IPhone features, the Apple Watch can connect to the world’s most convenient app, Siri, making use of the gadget even more effortless.

Which one’s right for you? There are three versions of the watch to be released later this month, the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Sport and the Apple Watch Edition. Each version has a difference in style, functionality and price and all of these models are available with either a 38mm or 42mm face.

Impressed? All three versions are set to hit the stores on the 24th of April in nine countries across the world: UK, U.S, Canada, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Australia, France and Germany.

Be the first to get your hands on this year’s most sort-after gadget!

How do you record your videos? Do you use a video camera, then transfer the video into your computer, then edit it and then upload it onto a video sharing site? If it took so much out of me writing such a long sentence describing it, I’m sure it must be pretty hard to actually do all that in real.  You see, video cameras are not obsolete as yet, but carrying them each and everywhere is just , well, stupid. But what if the one thing you carry each and everywhere could help you shoot videos, edit them and upload them right away? That is why the Mobile Phone companies have started giving the video quality of cell phones huge importance. The iPhone 5s has a 8 MP camera with 1080p video recording and it really does rock! The better the phone’s video quality becomes more and more redundant the video cameras will be. But sure you can record videos; you can also upload them right away. But there’s one grey area still left, i.e. the editing of the videos.

If you have a decent video editing app in your iPhone it will help you eliminate your computer and you can upload edited videos straightaway from your iPhone. There are plenty of apps that fulfill specific roles, like just adding music or making video slideshows out of the photos you already have, but really there’s very little choice when it comes to comprehensive video apps that let you edit video, add in and delete clips, make transitions, add filters AND share to your social networks all in one package. Thus to help you in that matter we have decided to make a list of some cool Apps to edit iPhone videos

Magisto

Magisto

Magisto is one app for the lazy buffs out there. The easiest way to describe Magisto is calling it an “automatic video editor.”You see, initially, I was quite sceptic about the credibility of an app that promised a perfectly video editing in a click, without any hassle whatsoever. But it is good. In fact , its really really good. All you need to do is choose a video from your iPhone that you wish to edit. Once you’ve selected your clips, you’re presented with a variety of music to choose from as a soundtrack. Then you are prompted to enter a title for you video. Magisto uploads the video to its server and edits the video . While you can choose what source material goes in to your final product, ultimately it’s up to the Almighty Algorithm to decide what makes the final cut. Thus the better the source quality the better the final product will be. The only problem in this app is the lack of control given to the user; and the only control you have is to choose the video clip and the soundtrack. Still the results are quite amazing.

iSupr8

iSupr8

Want your video to have a rusty retro feel? Then iSupr8 is just the app for you. Comin g in from the house of MEA Mobile, priced at $1.99 this app surely justifies its price tag because of its authenticity.  With its tagline “Digital Photography Never Looked So Analog,” it brings rich, retro and atmospheric effects to millions of people’s everyday observations of life. The authenticity of the end result is due to the absence of filters or cheap overlays in the colouring process, a developer’s claim which appears supported by the slightly lengthy time it takes to encode the original video. The main dashboard has the faux camera feel like Hipstamatic which is kind of quirky and authentic. If you want to stand out with a quirky yet classy video, just go for this app.

Cinema FX for video

Cinema-FX

Everyone wants to have an edited feel to their videos. But not many have the time to learn all the complex features found in most of the apps around. If you’re one of them, Cinema FX is just the app for you. It’s a fairly comprehensive video editing app when it comes to adding filters, but unfortunately doesn’t let you tweak the actual structure of the video itself. There are no audio options either, and the video rendering is pretty time consuming too. But since its pretty much a basic app we can’t complain much. The CinemaFX for Video is developed by by Nexvio Inc. and is priced at $1.99

iMovie

imovie-iphone

One of the most famous video editing softwares out there, iMovie is now part of the Apple’s iLife suite for iPhone and iPad. Editing movies is really pretty simple in iMovie. You can preview clips by simply dragging your finger across them. You can then trim the edges before adding them to your project. Adding music to your videos is a bit of a hassle as you cannot add more than one song to your movie unless your movie is long enough to play an entire song. You can then have a new song start after the first one is finished, but you cannot control the length of the clip nor choose when you want the song to start. The newest and by far the coolest feature added to the iMovie is the ability to make trailers — credits and all! You need to choose one between 9 different themes: Bollywood, Expedition, Fairy Tale, Narrative, Retro, Romance, Scary, Superhero, and Swashbuckler. A few tweaks here and there and you have your own movie trailer. Cool! Right? All these cool features and the reasonable pricing of $4.99 make iMovie the one app that you must have in your app collection.

Vizzywig

Vizzywig

If advanced features are your forte, then Vizzywig is what you are looking for.  It is a beautifully designed easy to use video editor that can be used easily by beginners and professionals. The editing features are plenty such as,adding different filters to changing background, adding songs manual controls for exposure, focus, and white balance and whatnot. Priced at a whopping $29.99 it will only be worth its cost if you’re already familiar with the basic techniques of video editing.  Even if you don’t it takes quite a while to get used to all the features and understanding them. Thus, only buy it if you wish to edit videos professionally and/or are a perfectionist.

Apple iPhone besides being a productive smartphone and outstanding entertainment partner is also quite good as a quick photography tool. Especially when you are on the go or when you want to catch daily moments in their making, not only because of the portability of iPhone 5, but also because of the quality camera specifications it sports.

Despite the fact that stock iPhone 5 Camera app is standard and gets the job done, one cannot simply ignore the offerings of other Amazing Photography Apps for iPhone 5. There are a lot of photography apps ranging from quick tweakers to full throttle photography editors and everything in between.

The only problem that comes with abundant app choice is the sheer amount of time, efforts, research and sometimes even money that simply flushes down the gutter before one finds an appropriate Photography app for iPhone 5. And that is exactly where we come in. We have compiled a list of 5 Amazing Photography Apps for iPhone 5 after considering a lot of factors like user benefits, interface, functionality, cost effectiveness and more.

Instagram- LINK

Instagram

Instagram has been around for quite a while now on both iOS and Android platform with its rich features and huge photography enthusiast members. It is probably the best way to share your daily life, creations and mobile photography skills with the rest of the world. The much hyped feature “Instagram Filters” also add to the overall photography experience by enhancing and automatically retouching your photos to spark a perfect vibe.

VSCO Cam- LINK

VSCO Cam

VSCO Cam is a keeper, not only because of the quality professional grade editing flexibility but also because it is free. You can control almost everything about your iPhone 5 camera to make a perfect photograph. Among different parameters that you can control a few worth mentioning are exposure, focus and depth of field.

Snapseed- LINK

Snapseed

Moving on to amazing photo editing apps for iPhone 5, Snapseed wins the competition before it even begins. Ranging from standard editing tools and effects to stylized filters, frames, tilt-shift generator Snapseed has it all. On top of all that, an impressive user interface and touch specific gesture controls makes Snapseed the photo editing app you will ever need.

Camera+ LINK

Camera+

Camera+ is more like an advanced spur for your iPhone 5’s camera. Besides boasting a gamut of filters, effects, functions and commands, it is the only app so far that handles auto-timed photographs more than well. And especially when it comes to reducing motion blur, there is no other app that does it better than Camera Plus.

Over- LINK

Over

To end this list we present an out of box photography app that ironically has less to do with photographs and more to do with quality captions. Now, as simple and mundane as it would appear, captioning and adding text or highlights to an quality picture is something that even the prodigies have a hard time with. And that is exactly where Over comes to rescue by providing options to add different styled texts and graphics anywhere on your photographs. The result is impeccable pictures that literally paint a thousand words.

We hope you liked our take on 5 Amazing Photography Apps for iPhone 5. If you have any personal favorites or suggestions about our list or its content, please mention in the comment section.

We all know about Al Gore, the former Vice President of the USA and now board member at Apple. Well we also know how tight lipped Apple, as a company are about their rumoured “new products” which lets admit it aren’t really surprising new products at all. They’re in fact probably the worst kept secret in the technology world.

Well now their most recent “worst kept secret” is set to be announced and put up for sale in the coming weeks. There have been lots of different rumours doing the rounds about the iPhone 5 and what it will and what it won’t have on or in it for that matter. We do know that it will come in the old 16GB and 32GB memory sizes and it will also be compatible with Vodafone’s £50 signal booster; Vodafone Sure Signal.

Anyway, back to Al Gore. He is a board member at Apple and he said at a Leadership Conference in South Africa “Not to mention the new iPhones coming out next month. That was a plug.” Obviously there are two ways in which he could have meant that. He could have meant that there was a second handset to be announced along with the eagerly anticipated iPhone 5. This second handset is rumoured to be a smaller, cheaper version of the iPhone 4, or a budget iPhone 4. However, he could have just meant the numerous handsets of the iPhone 5 that will be released. Who knows what he means? It could be either, but at least we know that there will be a new iPhone being released next month!

As many expected there’s going to be no iPhone 5 released at this year’s WWDC. At the Apple event there’s going to be a bit of a shock to the system when there’ll be no announcement that there’s going to be no new iPhone handset announced this year.

Some people will be devastated by that news and some other people won’t be too bothered by the news. Instead we’ve had news that there’s going to be a new iOS released at this summer’s event, which may act as a bit of a stop gap for some people but it may not suffice for others. The new iOS 5 will be unveiled at this summer’s WWDC and there’s set to be a host of new things added to the new iOS from Apple.

This has to got be some good news for current iPhone 4 and 3GS users because it still means that although they’re physically not getting a new handset it will be like having a new handset because of all of the features that the new iOS will bring to the handsets. There are many things that a lot of people out there will love about the new update, one of which is the fact that you no longer have to connect your device to a computer to receive the latest iOS updates and they will be over the air.

There are a bunch of other things that will be included in this update and some of them will no doubt be more appealing to certain people and not so appealing to others. There’s no official release date for the iOS 5 as of yet but there are rumours that it will be released in the autumn of this year, presumably to coincide with the expected release of the next iPhone handset.

So as it looks at the minute there are plenty of things to look forward to as far as Apple’s future is concerned, so for any of you out there who were hoping to be seeing the release of the new iPhone 5 this summer then you may have to hold out for a few more months and just make do with your new iOS update for now. Although we’re sure that the new handset will definitely be worth the wait.
